FLASH!!!!!!
528 will fit!!!!! 11/30/00
George, GREAT NEWS!!! Brett called this afternoon (11/30/2000) and we are on for the 528 HEMI!!!
I will place the order tomorrow if they can do it with a credit card over the phone. Otherwise I will FedEx them a Cashier's check on Monday. I was planning on using Jim's Auto parts (the site we have both been following throughout this) for several reasons: - Their price is $1,000 less than anywhere else - No sales tax - 50% shipping
If everything goes as planned, I will have it shipped directly to Gessford and you should have the engine in a few months (up to 6, but lets hope it moves faster than that!!) E-M wants to keep the plastic engine so they can work out the body/foot box/hood issues while we are working on the chassis. They will most likely send us the plastic engine with the body sometime in the summer/fall depending on how fast things are moving. Can we get another Bell housing or will you need the specific one you sent them? I didn't ask, but I assume they will need that for the body also?
Mark (relieved and excited!!)

One item on the checklist:
2 up from the very bottom of the page has Aluminum heads for the 426 listed
($899 each, that tacks on an extra $1,800 - we are already getting close to
the 528 price)

Mark
I'd guess these were bare heads too!...more valves etc to buy!
This Option probably rejected for phase one!
Remember if we keep it reasonably simple we might actually stay within our budget! You
have probably talked yourself into the 528 vs the 426 and I'd say at this point if your
going to rip this chassis and Vette drive train then lets rip it good! I'm leaning towards
a Richmond Tranny of some type...ask EM if they have installed them and are familiar with
them! We have to be sure we can adapt this....if no one makes it we will make it! I found
a new Jerico with the Mopar splined shaft for 2500$ from Wayne Turpin but due to the
straight cut gears he didn't think a street application was logical! He suggested
the Richmond if we can adapt it. More food for thought!
George!10/1
Spoke with Brette this afternoon at EM and he said they do Richmond 5 Speeds all the time. They hook up with no problem. He went on to say they were the "best and strongest gear boxes for street application out there". Looks like a good choice. I also inquired about the rear-end. He said with the Vette supension, it comes with the Vette differential, which he said should handle all the torque we throw at it
So, you convinced me...if we can fit the 528, lets do it!!! MT 10/2/00 AM
Let EM handle the rear end & drive shaft. The Mopar version 7031710-A Richmond will fit and they can use the one I send to attach to the Mopar 15330 Lakewood bell hsg we will also send with the Replica motor. The dummy engine won't have the clutch or disc when we send it. I will most likely use the following parts;
Richmond 5 Speed 7031710-A
Mopar 3.73 First gear ("A")
or Alternate
Road Race 7032718
Hurst Shifter # _______ (to follow) may need different handle) EM will know this.
Lakewood Bell Hsg 15330 (Mopar)
Lakewood Dowel Kit (align bell hsg)
Ram Clutch Disc, 6 Paddle Sintered iron w/sprung center hub # 904 & their Pressure Plate # 404 and their SFI Flywheel # 1583 This set-up is easier on the street
Taylor
409
Yellow Wire set (big dia wires look better than 8mm which will look lost on this engine!)
MSD Ignition 6AL Box, Blaster Coil and Pro-Billet Distributor (small dia cap) # 8546
Edelbrock 8814 Water Pump
Mopar 4286900 Water Pump Housing Cross Piece
March Pulley Set designed for this application by March with existing March pulleys. (No Fan on engine)
Canton 7 qt deep sump pan # 15-950 & pickup 15-951 (7" from pan rail to bottom of sump) EM will need this installed on the Dummy motor to check clearance (they will need to figure out a way to have three big Midas Muffler guys stand on the engine while checking the clearance (smile) Mark...these are preliminary part numbers I rounded up today. More investigation may change our (yours & mine) mind but I'm trying to assemble these basic items that will allow us to get to the next step.....send to EM, cash big deposit check, remind you you're crazy. George 10/2/00 PM
(C) Headers (2" or 2 1/8") EM to build from Replica engine dimensions.
(D) Motor Mount Style (Block Plate or Conventional)= conventional
(E) Which Hemi? 9.0:1 Iron or 10.25:1 Aluminum Head

When we get down to placing the order we should give them a call... unless, of
course, you have your sources.

Keep This Option Open For Now...several options on Free Freight Etc...negotiation time....will add some of the extra parts we need to get a package deal from the best source....absolutely no problem with you ordering and working together on all the correct parts we need! We have a budget to meet "Together"...we will want some options when this becomes reality and we need to get everything we can for the $$$$ and consider the budget! When we get the $$$ sorted out we can then make a Budget sheet and decide! Item By Item!
I scanned the magazine article about the 426 HEMI crate. The pages can be found here: (you may have to set you printer to "shrink to fit" I scanned them large - about 700k each, because when saved a JPGs they get harder to read) 10/1/00

(1) Options required from Jim's Auto List Plus others not listed and required
(F) Replica Hemi Engine for Chassis initial measurements and
setup.
Next steps:- research performance upgrades for the 426 (aluminum heads, bore, compression, stroke etc...)- keep collecting as much info as we can to make sure we are not crazy - I send you a down payment/deposit - select a transmission (manual)- order the plastic engine/possibly trans (or substitute with empty bell housing) - send plastic block/trans to EM for chassis fitting - another check to make sure we are not GOING crazy - have EM send me the chassis for assembly - have EM send plastic block to you for use as a coffee table - you build as much of the drive train as you can - I send you the chassis and wait impatiently for the ride of my life! Let me know if I missed anything, Mark 10/1/00
(G) Engine Requirements From The Driver's View...."9/10/00". I want a weekend driver, with good handling (that is why I picked the Corvette suspension) that has plenty of HP (400-500) I want to be a little different and no go with the standard 427....OK so Far we are completely off track from the original Goal....well, priorities do change in life! 9/18/00
(H) Tires/Rubber/Traction 9/18/00
How about rubber? I (Mark)have been struggling with what type
of tires/wheels to go with. Here is what I am leaning towards: 17 x 9 x 7.5 (front) and 17
x 10 x 8 (rear) Tires: 315/35R-17 BF Goodrich Comp TR1. I know we need some serious
traction, so I am all ears for any advice. I also really like raised-white lettering,
but will sacrifice for low-profile and better handling. I updated my page to include some
samples (http://www.mtdesign.com/cobra)
They mostly look like

LH Number 134-133 & RH Number 176-133 Rim width reqd 10.5/12.5 Section Width example is 12.6" on 11" , 25.7" dia, 9/32" tread depth, 811 RPM's at 45MPH, Load 1874# at 44$ Air Max 186 MPH

Run & Gun looks like fun! I Can't wait to attend one of these events and meet all the legends in person (10/1/00)
Brett at Everett-Morrison did not seem to think weight was a problem for the set-up we picked, He puts 460's on out Vette suspension with no problems, he sounded really excited to do the custom chassis for this block. (10/1/00)
I send you the chassis and wait impatiently for the ride of my life! (10/1/00)
